About Artist Ron Mura

“I started scribbling and doodling at an early age, mostly with pencil in grammar school. When I started Middle School, I was an illustrator for our school newspaper. I also built props for our school plays. In High School, I took many art classes, but sports and girls were still my priority. In Oakland California, I got a job in my sophomore year hand striping and painting cars, where I learned some valuable skills while earning play money.

I attended San Mateo College where I majored in Drafting and Engineering. After two years, I realized this was not the career path for me. I was tired of drawing straight lines; I wanted to draw ‘Outside the Box’, so to speak

My true art love is creating and designing, so in my life I have had businesses and dabbled in the following; Plexiglas fabrication, floral design, furniture manufacturing, auto restoration, landscape design, construction, building race cars and boats, designing and constructing decks and patio covers, building Koi ponds and waterfalls, painting with acrylic on canvas, and photography, just to name a few.

Some of my gallery shows while I lived in California were held at; San Francisco Show Place, Smiles Gallery in San Francisco, Hansen's Gallery in Sausalito, Michels in San Louis Obispo.

One of my lifelong dreams was to have my own gallery in my favorite place, Carmel By The Sea, California. I opened Mura Gallery on Mission Street which I ran for two years before the travel bug bit me. I travelled around the country in a motor home, then finally settled in Port Townsend, Washington

Currently my art and sculptures are on display in Gallery 9, located on Water Street in downtown Port Townsend.”
